Each morning

One score, and why

Recovery is a 0–100 score from HRV against your baseline, resting heart rate, sleep length and sleep quality. Free, every morning.

Recovery

Your own baseline

Scored against your last weeks, not a population average. From day one it uses the history already in Apple Health.

HRV status

Balanced, Unbalanced or Low

Your last 7 nights of sleeping HRV against your normal range from the 60 nights before.

Honest HRV

High is not always good

If HRV is high while resting heart rate, breathing or wrist temperature is up, Recovery is held and the screen says why.

Recovery time

Ready for hard training?

How many hours until your next hard session, with a likely range. It hides when you are recovered.

Sentinel

Is tonight unusual?

Wrist temperature, resting heart rate, HRV and breathing together: Clear, Watch or Alert.

Recovery debt

How long has it lasted?

Adds up how far your signals were outside normal, day after day, and how fast you usually bounce back.

Sentinel

Several signals, one view

One signal moves for boring reasons — a warm room, a late meal. Sentinel looks for several moving together overnight.

  • Five overnight signals: wrist temperature, resting heart rate, HRV, breathing rate and sleep.
  • Your own normal: each signal needs 10 nights to learn your range.
  • Clear, Watch or Alert — with the signals behind it, one tap down.
  • Not a diagnosis. It tells you your body is under strain, not why. If you feel ill, talk to a doctor.

FAQ

Common questions

How is the Recovery score worked out?

From HRV against your baseline, resting heart rate, sleep length and sleep quality, on a 0–100 scale. It is calculated on your iPhone. If you are new, Recovery works out the missing days from Apple Health, up to 30 days back.

What is HRV status?

It compares the average of your last 7 nights of sleeping HRV with your own normal range from the 60 nights before, and says Balanced, Unbalanced or Low. The first status needs about 4 weeks of wearing your watch to bed.

Why can high HRV hold my Recovery?

If HRV is above your range while resting heart rate, breathing rate or wrist temperature is also up, Metrya does not call it good news. Recovery is held at the level a normal HRV would give. It only stops a rise; it never pushes the score down.

What does Sentinel do?

It reads wrist temperature, resting heart rate, HRV, breathing and sleep together each night, and says Clear, Watch or Alert. Each signal needs 10 nights to learn your normal. It is not a diagnosis.

Do I need a Whoop or another band?

No. Metrya reads what your Apple Watch already records in Apple Health. Other wearables that write HRV and resting heart rate to Apple Health, such as Oura or Garmin, work too.
